What to expect?

The LEADER 2030 TALK will focus on the topic of "Can Composites Help Innovation and Supply Autonomy in Railways?"

Composites have the potential to significantly enhance innovation in the railway sector by improving key performance metrics, such as reducing weight (and thereby lowering energy consumption) and increasing overall efficiency. However, the railway industry has also faced supply shortages, affecting the availability of composites.

In this roundtable discussion, featuring LEADER 2030 coordinator Veronica Elena Bocci and representatives from composites specialist companies Incom Group and Global Composites, we will explore the following questions:

  • Are composites more resilient than other materials currently used in railway applications, such as aluminum?
  • If composites offer clear advantages, what barriers are hindering their widespread adoption in the railway sector? Are these obstacles regulatory (e.g., restrictions within the TSI framework), economic (e.g., higher costs compared to aluminum), or due to other factors?

About LEADER 2030

The aim of the EU LEADER 2030 project led by ERCI is to develop measures that contribute to strengthening the resilience of European supply chains for raw materials for the railway sector in the current global situation. Join in the discussion and take the opportunity to make valuable new contacts.
