What to expect?

In this ERCI Webinar you will learn about two innovative solutions of using carbon negative materials in the rail sector.

Plastecowood (United Kingdom) takes mixed plastic packaging waste and converts it into a carbon negative replacement for wood, concrete or steel, depending on application. They present Smartawood™, an innovative Carbon Negative Circular Fencing System. It has an ultra-long life because of carbon negative fencing made from mixed plastic packaging waste. Other applications of this technology include boardwalks and walkways, outdoor furniture for public spaces, canal retaining walls, acoustic barriers, shipping structures and pallets.

carbonauten (Germany) – the minus CO2 factory - develops and produces carbon-negative compounds. The resulting plastic parts have improved properties and are cost-effective. Their presentation describes the production of biocarbons from wood residues which are a certified CO2 sink, as they permanently store carbon from the atmosphere. For the first time, seat shells and armrests of the ICE were injection molded from CO2-negative plastic with a biocarbon content of 33%.

About ERCI

This webinar is organised by the ERCI - European Railway Clusters Initiative. ERCI comprises 18 research and innovation-oriented railway technology clusters, covering 17 countries. ERCI represents over 3.600 enterprises and research institutes including over 2,300 SMEs and aims to promote innovation and the development of new business opportunities as a means to sustainably strengthen competitiveness within the European railway industry. ERCI promotes cooperation between industry and research, initiates innovation projects, organises B2B meetings and workshops. This also includes promoting visibility and networking at EU level.
