What to expect?

In this ERCI Webinar you will learn about innovative solutions for decarbonising the rail industry.

Sulnox Eco is the flagship solution of Sulnox Group to be presented in this webinar for delivering more complete combustion in engines. Made from 100% organic, biodegradable ingredients, it’s backed by numerous patents worldwide and works seamlessly with any liquid hydrocarbon fuel. No retrofits, no costly upgrades, no capex - just drop it in and see the results. From shipping and logistics to mining and construction, Sulnox Eco is delivering results where it matters most. Tested extensively and in real-world operations, our solution is already helping industries reduce fuel consumption, lower emissions and protect engines. In 2024, Colas Rail UK tested Sulnox Eco Fuel Conditioner in two settings: four tampers in Rugby (April–December) and Class 66/37 locomotives in York (October–December). Emissions were measured by Socotec and Cura Terrae.

Results showed clear improvements after using Sulnox Eco:

  • 4.5% better fuel efficiency in locomotives
  • 63.2% less Carbon Monoxide
  • 47.5% less Sulphur Oxide
  • 32.6% reduction in PM2.5 and 30.4% in PM10

Significant emissions and fuel savings were observed across both trials.

The second presentation is about the 08e prototype by Positive Traction. They are using considerable rail industry experience and renewable energy expertise, to meet the challenge of lower carbon emissions by embarking on a series of projects that involve converting diesel locomotives to battery technology, with modern electronics and control systems, resulting in cleaner vehicles with vastly reduced emissions.

In 2023, Positive Traction launched their 08e prototype – a converted diesel 08 shunter to battery power. Not only was the power source changed, but the opportunity was taken to manage all aspects of obsolescence and improve the safety and efficiency of the vehicle as a whole. The driving controls, weight and classification remain the same for ease of transition.

The conversion results in lower running costs, less maintenance, less downtime, no emissions, less noise and no future penalties. It just makes sense.
