What to expect?

In this ERCI webinar you will learn about new approaches to intermodal rail transport.

CargoBeamer - member of Rail.S - has developed a new transshipment technology that enables all kinds of semi-trailers to use rail. Inside specialized CargoBeamer-Terminals, semi-trailers are loaded on freight trains fully automatically, significantly reducing loading times and creating highly efficient terminal processes.

The presentation will introduce the system using the example of the CargoBeamer-Terminal in Calais, France. It will highlight the potential of CargoBeamer solution to boost the much-needed shift from road to rail across Europe. With this solution, CargoBeamer is the winner of the ERCI Innovation Award 2024 in the ‘Best SME’ category.

The second presentation will introduce the results of the UrbFRail project: the UrbFRail Screening Tool, the UrbFRail Development Tool and the Learning Platform and show how different actors can benefit from them. The project forces to bring rail freight back to the city, to shift more goods to rail and to shorten the last mile by enabling spatial and transport planners to create and revitalise urban freight rail hubs.

UrbFRail is an EU-funded Interreg project in the Baltic Sea region. The project was carried out under the leadership of the Berlin Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Action and the Environment, together with project partners from Poland and Sweden.
