Call for Solutions: Advanced Technologies for Resilience of Rail Supply Chains

7. September 2023 9:00 AM –
8. September 2023 6:00 PM
online

The STARS project is looking for potential solutions for one of the twelve challenges to strengthen the resilience of supply chains in the rail sector with the help of advanced technologies. Take part in the Call for Solutions free of charge and benefit from a broad network of our European partners.

Be there live

  • Das Kick-off Meeting findet statt am  7. September 2023 | 09:00-10:00 UTC+2
  • Das Closure Meeting findet statt am: 8. September 2023 | 17:00-18:00 UTC+2

Here are examples of the challenges you can propose. If one of these challenges seems to be relevant for you, you can copy, paste and complete it on the following question. If not, feel free to write your own challenge!

  • "We want to optimise the manufacturing process of ......, as we have this type of problem...... / as we need to increase quantities...... / as we need to increase the quality because I have too much wastes..."

  • "We want to improve the reactivity/quality of our Customer Service but we are a small team. How can AI or other solutions help us?"

  • "We want to innovate how we deliver the maintenance service of fleets, reducing the time necessary and, possibly, the number of technicians involved. How could this be achieved?"

  • "Our customer wants us to reduce the weight of our component ....... What alternative materials could I use for substitution?"

  • "We want to reduce the energy costs of our manufacturing process, concerning .... What solutions could we find?

  • "We want to increase the cyber resilience of our IT/OT. How can we do it?"

  • "We want to lower the power demand of our distributed sensors/devices on board of trains..., without reducing bandwidth capabilities. How could we do it?"

  • "Our company wants to increase its own sustainability while reducing energy costs through energy creation from waste. How could we do it?"

  • "We are interested in real-time object-tracking, with specific reference to .... What technology/solution could we develop?"

  • "Even more frequently we are requested to manufacture very small numbers of our component ... We want to start using Additive Manufacturing but we don't want to invest, for the time being, in big 3D printers, and we have to rely on a third-party. How can we be sure that the third-party only manufacture the exact number of pieces we are going to require? We have heard about Blockchain and traceability benefit. How could this be applied to our relationship with the third party?"

  • "In order to comply with privacy rules, we need to anonymise video-recording and images our solution .... will gather. How can we make it?"

  • "We want to increase the speed/quality of data transmission of our device .... How can we do it?"

  • "We want to start approaching the use of robotics in our manufacturing line / logistics / inspection service ... But we are an SME and we need to find an economic balance between the cost of the new investment and the saving in staff costs. What solutions could we consider?"

  • "We are collecting a huge amount of data from our IoT sensors installed in our manufacturing factory / on passenger trains / on freight trains... but so far we aren't able to make the most of them. How could AI help us in this?"

What is it about?

STARS "Hack & Match" events are an integral part of the support services provided by the EU STARS project for small and medium-sized enterprises. The aim is to support SMEs from the rail/mobility sector in Europe in the introduction of advanced technologies. This should contribute to the improvement of their products, services, manufacturing processes and organisation and ultimately to an increase in innovation and competitiveness.

The main focus of the STARS "Hack & Match" event #5 is to develop and stimulate innovation and cooperation between more traditional and technology-savvy SMEs and solution providers on the topic of "Advanced Technologies for Resilience of Railway Supply Chains".

What do participants of previous STARS Hack & Match events say?

How do you participate?

Call for Challenges

  • SMEs from the rail/mobility sector that need support in the introduction and application of advanced technologies can define a specific challenge.
  • The Call for Challenges is closed.
  • You may define your own challenge by using the Call for Solutions form.

Call for Solutions

  • Technology-savvy SMEs/start-ups and the research community can contribute their solutions/knowledge - based on Advanced Technologies - to open up new application fields and cooperation opportunities in the rail/mobility sector, to become more visible there, to establish new development partnerships and to drive innovation projects forward.
  • A possibility for all other organisations to jointly develop ideas and promote cooperation opportunities.
  • The Call for Solutions will be open from 8 August to 1 September 2023.

"Hack & Match" event

  • Within two days, teams of "Challenge Providers" and "Solution Providers" will jointly develop solutions for one addressed challenge each.
  • The teams will be supported by "Technical Tutors" and "Animation Tutors" from the STARS project consortium.
  • The STARS "Hack & Match" Event #5 will take place from 7 to 8 September 2023.
  • Kick-off meeting: 7 September 2023 | 09:00-10:00 UTC+2
  • Teamwork part: 7 September 2023 | 10:00 UTC+2 - 8 September 2023 | 17:00 UTC+2
  • Closure meeting: 8 September 2023 | 17:00-18:00 UTC+2

Why is it worth participating?

  • Present your products, projects, services or business needs.
  • Get information about the latest trends and discover new products and services.
  • Generate new leads and meet new contacts in a time and cost efficient way.
  • Prepare new customer relationships, development partnerships and projects.
