What to expect?

In this ERCI webinar, you will learn about the role of modern materials in the rail sector, focusing on innovative approaches to sustainability and performance.

One of the key highlights will be the use of wood as a lightweight and versatile material, exemplified by Weitzer Wood Solutions (WWS), a company from Austria specialising in the development and production of lightweight wooden components. Wood is positioned as a sustainable alternative to traditional materials like carbon, aluminum, and steel, offering benefits such as a reduced CO2 footprint, high mechanical values, fire protection, and durability. WWS uses advanced engineering to create wood hybrid components, utilizing digital twins to optimize manufacturing and ensure continuous quality control.

In the second part of the ERCI webinar, you will learn about how we can transform recycled material into a key element in order to reduce vibrations from the railway. Vibrations from railways can cause annoyance in the residents near a railway line because of the train wheel and the railway track. One way to prevent and reduce this vibration is by using resilient elements, and Caucho Industrial Verdú from Spain will explain how recycled rubber can help in this task. These green solutions can reduce CO2 footprint, and durability and mechanical properties are in most cases better than other new products.

About ERCI

This webinar is organised by the ERCI - European Railway Clusters Initiative. ERCI comprises 18 research and innovation-oriented railway technology clusters, covering 17 countries. ERCI represents over 2,300 SMEs and aims to promote innovation and the development of new business opportunities as a means to sustainably strengthen competitiveness within the European railway industry. ERCI promotes cooperation between industry and research, initiates innovation projects, organises B2B meetings and workshops. This also includes promoting visibility and networking at EU level.
